I've been putting off creating a website for myself but decided it was time to add another element to my version of a mid-life crisis getting back into BMX bikes, specifically #bigBMX bikes in the 24"-29" range. A personal website can allow me to expand the things I'm doing beyond #YouTube and social media.
In looking for a website host, I decided to test out two of the bigger names today in personal website building, Wix and Squarespace. Yeah, Wordpress is still a thing but I wanted to use something backed by a company that could integrate a true drag-and-drop type of interface along with having a backend for selling things like merchandise down the line. I signed up for their free plans and just started creating identical sites. Right away the Wix platform felt really easy to use. I had never tried Wix before and had just heard all sorts of ads about it. I then tried Squarespace but immediately had issues with their editor. I spent all this time setting up videos on a page only to have the page hang up on me and become non-responsive. I had to force it to reload and when it did, poof, all of my work was gone. That to me sealed the deal and I went back to Wix and here we are today. We are going to see how things go but I think I made the right choice. Come back often to check on what I'll be doing with this site in the future!
Mahalo!
